Reno is home to some serious dirt and motorsport loving men and women who love to escape the urban lifestyle, and so it only seems appropriate for Reno to host the Off-Road & Motorsports Expo right in downtown Reno. This show features local businesses from Northern Nevada and Northern California presenting their products, innovations and latest projects, including one of Reno’s most knowledgeable and resourceful off-road shops, Street To Sand Off-Road.

Street To Sand‘s 20’ x 50’ booth will be situated just inside the main entrance displaying their customized Sand Rails, Razors, Banshees and CNC’d accessories- not to mention Fusion Bumper’s Ford truck, specially customized by Street to Sand. To keep you entertained, S2S will be showing videos of what their off-road vehicles do best: playing in the sand!

We at Street to Sand love a challenge, and our latest project, a 2005 Corvette C6 Convertible LS2 Automatic gave us the opportunity to completely customize a great American muscle car from the inside out. This project started in December of 2011 and is still in the works with parts lying about the shop, and we are shooting for a completion date of March 2012. As recognition for our talent and expertise, Vette Magazine will be running our story in one of their upcoming issues!

This Corvette arrived completely stock except for a Borla Cat-Back exhaust and tune, and all the GM OEM parts for conversion were ordered using a 2010 Corvette Grand Sport VIN number. We first began the customization on the exterior of the car, where the removal of the inner fender well parts took only 45 minutes once the quarter panels were detached. The new GS quarter panels are 1.5” wider on each side and the front GS fenders are 1” wider. As said before, this is a project still in the making but below is a list of parts that will be used in the entire conversion:

GS Front Fenders • GS Rear Quarter Panels • GS Front Bumper • aftermarket 2.5” Cowl Hood • OEM GM inner fender liners and hardware • Z06 front and rear brake calipers • stainless braided lines • Kinetic Zinc Plated Cross drilled/slotted rotors • misc. Carbon Fiber interior parts • Corvette 2012 bucket seats • DSVettes Custom D Style steering wheel with matching shift boot, console cover and e-brake handle • Trick Flow Stage 4 camshaft • Patriot CNC’ed cylinder heads • Ported 90mm throttle body painted black • black powder coated alternator and bracket • Dynatech long tube headers • Nitrous Express 35-150hp kit • 2011 Corvette ZR1 dual mode mufflers wired into the garage door buttons • Yank 3200 RPM Stall convertor • lowered 1.2” • 20×13 DUB 3-piece rear wheels • 19×10 DUB 3-piece front wheels • 7” JVC in-dash DVD with navigation, Bluetooth, hands-free and back-up camera

Below is a gallery of what the Corvette looked like before the conversion, stay tuned for the amazing ‘after’ photos:

Sometimes people who own a high-performance vehicle question whether getting a Dyno Tune is worth the money, and if a Mail Order Tune will do the same job. The answer: a dyno Tune will give your vehicle maximum performance, where a Mail Order Tune will, in a sense, guess the performance your vehicle needs. Here at Street To Sand Off-Road &Performance, we can dyno and tune just about any vehicle made and we have two of the latest state of the art dynamometers from Dynojet.

To dive into what the dyno Tune actually entails, it starts by operating the vehicle on the dyno to get a good data log on the individual behaviors of the vehicle. This includes monitoring timing spark advance, spark knock (detonation), air/fuel ratio (AFR), torque management, engine coolant temperature, air intake temperature and boost if the engine is supercharged.

With the engine running on the dyno and sitting on the rollers, the vehicle will be tested under numerous speeds and load conditions.

Mail Order Tunes simply can’t provide the acuteness that a dyno Tune delivers. Bottom line, the dyno tune will give your vehicle an unmatched quality, providing you with smooth and efficient performance.

Living in the Northern Nevada area, we are blessed with off-road and street racing tracks, sand mountains, and an appreciation for outdoor motor activities. Street To Sand Off-Road & Performance, having that same passion, knows that Dyno Tuning is an important aspect of high-performance vehicles and so has become the only custom shop in the Northern Nevada and California area to offer this service- and be certificated at that! If you want your off-road or street vehicle to run at top performance, let Street To Sand optimize it for you.
